Our Preparation

Our wedding preparation started as early as in March 2007. We did plenty of research, talked to people, shared their experiences, attended bridal shows and went around gathering as much information as we can on the do-s and don't-s of a Chinese customary wedding.

Getting the auspcious dates - important

We believe it is important for us, as Chinese, to respect and observe some, if not all, of the customary practices especially when it comes to the planning of our traditional wedding. Picking an auspicious date for the betrothal (过大礼), installing the bridal bed (安床), and the wedding day (迎亲) is first and foremost priority.

Attended bridal show

In June, we attended a bridal show organized by Her World Brides. During the event, we had the chance to meet up with the designers and sales representatives from several wedding boutiques.

One good thing about such events is that most of the bridal boutiques will be present. This facilitates the find-and-compare process. In addition, it brings us great convenience as we do not need to travel from one place to another.

The downside, of course is that you probably will not get 100% attention due to interruptions from the surrounding crowd and with the sales representatives more eager to close a deal rather than to give quality service the customers.

Booked the wedding banquet

Finding a good  the right place to host our wedding dinner became the next action item in our to-do list. We wanted to host the dinner in a pillarless hotel ballroom that can accomodate at least 30 tables.

Preferably, it will be one that is highly exclusive, i.e. with only 1 ballroom so that the guests will never run into a wrong ballroom and be greeted with a wrong reception.

Other considerations include: (i) the venue must be easily accessible by public transport and (ii) banquet must be a sumpteous spread of Cantonese cuisine served right out from the hotel kitchen (not some ala-carte wedding catering services). And so ...

IT IS GOING TO BE HERE. Click to see map.

We had several rounds of negotiation before signing the contract and confirming our reservation. Of course, we did not get the best bargain. However, we thought since it will be a once-in-this-lifetime affair, and we love that place and the nostalgic ambience, so let's do it.

Signed up the wedding package

We took up a package from Yvonne's Creative located along Tanjong Pagar Road. So far so good. We are relatively ok with their services and no major issues thus far. Just hope it stays that way from now all the way to the actual day.

Sourced for wedding photographer

Derrick Ong will be our wedding day photographer. We are extremely impressed by his professionalism and his extensive portfolio. Most importantly, we feel very comfortable with him and we believe he will be the best person to take up our assignment. Check out Derrick's website.

Sourced for wedding videographer

Blossom Chia and team from The Wedding Paparazzi will be with us on our wedding day to capture all the wonderful moments to come. We believe there will be lots of hilarious and heart-warming videos to be taken on that day. We really can't wait for that to happen.

Flash guru(s) required - for wedding montage

This tender has been awarded to Edalene & team. Who else can flash better than these guys. Alright, I beg you guys please do not attempt to give me some movie posters as the background image hor. No campaign please. Many thanks in advance!
