Delivery Boy

Posted on April 23rd, 2008 at 10:19 pm

I was quite glad to be able to hand my wedding invitation cards personally to a handful of ex-colleagues over the last few days. Unfortunately, there will be a handful whom I would have to resort to snail mail because it’s going to be rather difficult to get hold of them.

In the midst of writing and sending out the wedding invites, I experienced the joy and fun of wedding preparation. Even though it meant a couple of late nights, that feeling was simply awesome.

Evon and I are nearly done with the invites and coming up next, we gotta start making preparations for all those traditional and customary items. Also, not forgetting the bed-side tables. Shit! Time’s really running out. Panic!

Food Tasting Session

Posted on April 21st, 2008 at 11:23 pm

Just came back from the food tasting session earlier at Hotel Intercontinental. The banquet spread was sumpteous and every dish was very nicely presented. The food portion was just nice. Wait a minute! This is a food tasting session. Naturally, everything has got to be good. Otherwise, it’s probably going to rock our confidence when it comes to the actual wedding banquet. Hence, it’s certainly going to be nothing but the best for this meal.

Chef Loo commented that if the chefs can attain such a standard on our AD, then it’s really value for money. The standard on the AD tends to differ slightly primarily because the kitchen is literally turning into a factory in its mass-production mode. There are going to serve so many tables on the AD, it’s no surprise with the mass and rapid production strategy, the food standard may drop a little. So, we shall see.

I forgot to check with the captain on the name of the chinese tea that we drank earlier. Goodness! It was fragrant and smooth. Simply superb!

Time to update website

Posted on March 30th, 2008 at 10:09 am

With the wedding invite inserts printing-in-progress, the next thing to do will be to start creating the RSVP page for those tech-savy guests who may choose to rsvp via the website. That means, I will have to fire-up the web authoring tool and start writing some HTML/CSS/JavaScript and PHP codes. Shit! How do I write a SQL query to create new table? Better start to do some readings to recap these stuffs.

Wedding Album Layout & Artwork

Posted on March 28th, 2008 at 11:45 pm

We were at Yvonne’s Creative earlier to meet up with the album layout artist, Jean. We were presented with the “mock-ups” of our wedding album. Based on the photographs that we had selected couple of weeks ago, Jean managed to stitched up a very nice storyboard for us. We can somehow experience that “wow” in us :)

We did have several requests to make amendments on the positioning, layout and colour tone for several photos. Evon and I were really impressed by Jean’s photoshop skills. It didn’t take her very long to make the necessary adjustments and amendments to the photos.

After this phase, it will be the final photo touch-up. We would really have to examine each and every single piece very carefully so as to make sure that the entire album is perfect. No compromise! Thereafter, will be printing and follow by the binding activities. Hopefully, everything will be ready by the first week of May.

Ready to Print

Posted on March 27th, 2008 at 9:10 pm

After a round of revision, Evon and I gave the green light to proceed with the printing.

We were really pleased with the prompt reply and fast turn-around from the designer.

So, it’s all set. We will be expecting the inserts in about 2 weeks time.

Then it will be another headache … writing the invites and sending out / handling it personally by hand.

Wines Wines

Posted on March 23rd, 2008 at 12:20 am

It was really nice of Daren to introduce one of his suppliers to us; knowing that Evon and I had been scouting high and low for red wines to be served at our wedding banquet.

We are planning not to serve white wines because it’s been an observation that the more common beverages include beer, hard liquor and red wines.

Evon and I would have to do some mathematics to determine the total cost and come to a conclusion as to whether we will be getting the wines from the hotel or from a supplier.

I can do scoping of projects and time-lines rather quickly and accurately.  But when it comes to estimating the total number of bottles of wine required, I am pretty helpless :)

Headache!

Wedding Card Inserts Printing

Posted on March 22nd, 2008 at 11:00 pm

Thanks to Ah Bang’s recommendation, Evon and I no longer need to hunt high and low for a printing firm to print our wedding invite inserts. No further consideration required as we decided to engage his Dad’s printing services for this job. We were really grateful to his Dad for the exceptionally good rates given to us.

The designer would get in touch with us once the layout is done and we will then need to check and check and double check to ensure that everything is okay before we give our approval to go ahead with the mass-production. Hot-stamping method is almost twice as expensive as the normal printing … better be safe than sorry.

Yes! One down. We could feel it already. It’s really coming! :)

Collected Wedding Cards

Posted on March 16th, 2008 at 10:20 pm

We collected our wedding invititation cards from the concierge at Hotel Intercontinental last night. We were thankful for our wish had been granted. Of course, that’s not without some negotiation and at the same time with the help from our dear friends Mr & Mrs Ong.

The next step will be to look for a reliable printer to help print the inserts. Speaking about reliability, I can always count on Ah Bang’s dad to help. Years ago, when my Dad started his food business, we got Ah Bang’s dad to help print the business cards too. The quality was good and more importantly, we got the cards on time.

So, we’ll be meeting up with his Dad this coming Saturday to discuss on the details and hopefully to get a good price for the job :)

OMG! As I check out the count-down widget, I can’t help but to feel a little panicky and of course excited. It’s about 77 more days to go. how how how?

Bridal Bed

Posted on March 16th, 2008 at 10:00 pm

For the past 2 weeks, Evon and I had been busy looking around for our bridal bed. We flipped the newspapers, browsed the web and visited several shops at Jurong East IMM. However, there wasn’t anything that caught our fancy.

Earlier this afternoon, we headed down to the industrial area at Sungei Gadut. We took a free shuttle bus service from Yew Tee MRT station and arrived at IFC located at 68 Sungei Gadut. There must have been at least 60 - 70 furniture shops in the mall. Surprisingly, we didn’t really come across any beds that we like.

In the later part of the afternoon, we went to The Furniture Mall at Beach Road to try our luck. We visited shop by shop and eventually settled for the following:

Mattress: Simmons Midnight Elegance - Tight Top
Bedframe: Simmons Micro

Simmons Bedframe Micro

Thankfully, there was a discount given to the bedframe with the purchase of the mattress. Hence, the entire set fell nicely within our initial budget. Phew! So that’s it! The delivery will be made sometime in mid May which will be in time for the 按床 ceremony.

Are you available?

Posted on March 12th, 2008 at 11:23 pm

Our banquet manager, Jane, contacted us last week to inform us that the wedding cards were ready for collection.  Over the past few days, Evon and I had been busy sorting out the wedding dinner invitation details. One thing for sure, this ain’t no easy task because it involved lotsa considerations and encompassed lotsa complexities. Eventually, we had to make some painful and difficult decisions.

Our starters went something like the following …

“Will you be in town on 2 June 2008?”
“Do you happen to be travelling during the period 2 June 2008?”
“Will you be back in Singapore on 2 June 2008?”

For the longest period of time, sending out wedding invites to relatives and friends have been ranked one of the toughest tasks in the entire wedding preparation process. If the Chinese characters are not written correctly, i.e. additional or missing strokes, it may mean we are probably not going to expect this guest at the wedding dinner. Such situations are more common in traditional families or to folks who are very particular about such details.

Evon and I managed to get a on-the-spot confirmation from some of our friends and ex-colleagues. A handful of them will only be able to respond closer towards the day. That’s understandable because some needs to travel while others may have other programmes planned out during that period. In anticipation of that, we decided to kick things off early so as to give others ample time to decide.

As we count down, we are like about 80+ days to our wedding dinner. We are slowly feeling the rush of adrenalin already. Pray for us that everything will go smoothly. Cheers!
